The Great Mallow, also called Wild Mallow, Wood Mallow, or Sylvan Mallow, is a hardy and melliferous plant appreciated both for its rustic beauty and its medicinal properties. It colors embankments, gardens, and meadows with a soft purple hue and attracts many pollinators.
Plant type : Perennial, but often grown as biennial or annual depending on the climate.
Sowing : From March to June directly in place, or in a pot sheltered from February.
Exposure : Sunny to partial shade.
Soil : Light, well-drained, even calcareous.
Stratification : ❌ No stratification necessary.
Flowering : From June to September, or even later if the climate remains mild.
Height : Up to 1.20 m depending on conditions.
The flowers and leaves are edible and used in herbal tea or cooking (young leaves raw or cooked). The plant has many virtues.
It pairs very well with marigolds, cornflowers, or borage for a melliferous and colorful garden. It can also accompany vegetable gardens, attracting bees and bumblebees while adding a floral touch.
Traditionally, the mallow is a symbol of gentleness and protection. It was once planted near houses to soothe spirits and calm tensions.

I grew these for the first time last year and they are fantastic. Good for general use and equally good for cooked dishes. Wonderful dark red flesh which is very tasty.
