🌱 Growing tips

• Sowing : from March to May, in warm pots (20-25°C), or outdoors after the last frosts.

• Transplanting : when plants have 3 to 4 leaves and the soil is well warmed.

• Exposure : full sun.

• Soil : rich, fresh, well-drained, enriched with compost.

• Spacing : 1 m between each plant.

The plant dies at the end of the season, after fruiting.

❄️ Stratification

No stratification needed: semi-direct sowing after soaking seeds in lukewarm water for 12 to 24 hours is recommended.

🍽️ Uses

Firm flesh, slightly sweet, perfect for stuffing, in gratin, mashed, or simply roasted in the oven. When harvested young, the orange pattypan can be eaten raw, grated, like a zucchini.

🌿 Beneficial associations

Goes well with corn, beans (in the Three Sisters planting method), nasturtium, and borage, which repel harmful insects. Avoid planting near other zucchinis to limit hybridization.
