150 Ishikura Leek Onion Seeds (Allium fistulosum)
Description
Ishikura Welsh Onion – Allium fistulosum
150 reproducible seeds – heirloom variety
The Ishikura Welsh Onion, also called Japanese leek, Japanese scallion, Welsh onion, green onion, Saint-Jacques chive or Negi in Japan, is a traditional Asian variety of Allium fistulosum. It is grown like a leek but harvested like a green onion. This hardy plant is prized for its long tubular foliage reminiscent of leek, with a fine and delicately garlicky taste.
Plant characteristics:
Perennial in mild climates but often grown as an annual, this plant forms long white shafts without a true bulb, perfect to harvest young or semi-mature. It can reach 40 to 60 cm in height and is ideal in vegetable gardens as well as containers.
Usage:
Young stems are eaten raw or cooked, like chives or a small leek. Widely used in Japanese cuisine (ramen, wok, broths), it also enhances omelets, tarts, or vegetable dishes.

-
Sowing: directly in open ground from March to July, or under cover from February.
-
Depth: 1 cm, spacing of 10 cm between plants.
-

-
