Description
Malope trifida grandiflora, often simply called Malope, is a spectacular annual flowering plant prized for its generous blooms and vibrant shades ranging from white to deep purple, including magenta pink. Native to the Mediterranean basin, it adds a romantic and wild touch to the garden. Appreciated for its large flowers similar to mallows, it brightens flower beds, borders, and country gardens throughout the summer.
Characteristics :
This herbaceous plant produces large funnel-shaped flowers, usually bright pink, purple, or white, borne on long branched stems reaching 80 to 100 cm in height. It attracts bees and butterflies, thus contributing to garden biodiversity.
Uses:
Perfect in flower beds, borders, or wildflower meadows, it is also very suitable for making fresh bouquets thanks to its long flowering stems. Attracts pollinators, especially bees and butterflies.
Growing tips:
Sow directly outdoors from April, or in pots from March under cover, for planting out in May. Lightly cover the seeds and keep the soil moist until germination (7 to 14 days). Space plants about 25 cm apart. Sunny exposure, light and well-drained soil.
Beneficial associations:
Pair with cosmos, zinnias, lavateras, or cornflowers for vibrant summer scenes. Also appreciated near vegetable gardens for its attractive power on beneficial insects.
Symbolism:
Malope is often associated with simple and spontaneous beauty, rustic charm, and sometimes gratitude in the language of flowers.
