Description:
- Numerous varieties: Garden columbines come in many species, all hardy and offering a wide range of colors. Their unique flowers make them ideal for enhancing beds, rock gardens, borders, or even balcony containers.
- Brilliant flowering: The flowers can be blue, violet, mauve, pink, or white, and they usually bloom from May to June.
- Hardiness: Very cold-resistant, columbines can be planted in full sun or in lightly shaded areas. However, the soil must be well-drained, cool, and relatively rich.
- Columbine seeds generally require cold stratification to optimize germination.
Growing Tips:
- Planting: Sow the seeds in spring in well-prepared, slightly moist soil.
- Location: Choose a sunny or lightly shaded spot to plant your columbines.
- Care: Water regularly but moderately, and keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
- Companions: Columbines pair well with many other plants, whether in perennial beds, rock gardens, or borders.
