10 Sponge Pumpkin Seeds
Description
Luffa, also known as vegetable sponge or loofah, is a fascinating plant with multiple uses. Discover everything you need to know about this versatile plant:
Description:
- Luffa is a plant that offers both edible fruits when young and a natural sponge once mature. The green, elongated fruits can be eaten in their early growth stages, while their fibers later transform into sponges used for body and household cleaning.
- This plant requires plenty of sun, warmth, and humidity to thrive. A rich, sandy soil is ideal for its growth. It can climb on a trellis or crawl on the ground, although trellis cultivation is often preferable to allow the fruits to develop without obstruction.
- The sponge harvest is generally done when the fruit's skin begins to brown or crack, usually around October. You just need to tear the skin to release the sponge and extract the seeds. For use as a sponge, whole fruits are soaked in water, peeled, and cleaned of their seeds.
Uses:
- The resulting vegetable sponge is ideal for exfoliating the skin when slightly moistened and rubbed with soap. It can also be used with baking soda, white vinegar, or black soap to clean dishes, limescale-covered faucets, and even cars, without risk of scratches.
- After use, it is recommended to rinse the sponge well and let it dry.
