Description :
- The guava fruit is yellowish with a thick skin and pink flesh, very aromatic. It is often made into juice or sorbet.
- The species most cultivated for export, Psidium guajava, forms a tree with a dense crown, generally reaching 10 meters in height. It can also be grown into a low bush for easier harvesting.
- The leaves of the guava tree are simple and opposite, with an oval or oblong elliptical blade 15 cm long and 5 cm wide. They are persistent, dark green in color, with a whitish pubescent underside.
Vegetation:
- The guava tree can reach 30 to 30 feet in height, with a dense crown and slightly gnarled trunk. Its leaves are evergreen, dark green in color, with visible yellow veins and a whitish pubescent underside.
- Guava flowering occurs mainly in spring, with white flowers isolated or in groups. The fruits are pear-shaped to round, reaching up to 10 cm in diameter.
Qualities :
- The guava tree is cold resistant down to -2°C. It can also be grown in pots, producing fruits the same size as a tree in the ground from the age of 2 to 40 years. However, flowering and fruiting can be random in temperate regions.
Cultivation Tips:
- To grow guava in pots, use an earthen pot with rich potting soil mixed with sand and compost. Make sure to install 20 cm of clay balls in the bottom of the pot for good drainage.
