20 Seeds of Indian Feather (Ipomoea versicolor quamoclit lobata)
Description
Indian Feather (Ipomoea versicolor, Quamoclit lobata, also called Flamboyant Vine or Fire Vine)
Native to Central America, this spectacular climber is appreciated for its multicolored cluster inflorescences, ranging from scarlet red to pale yellow as they bloom. The Indian Feather captivates with its rapid growth, original flowering, and ability to elegantly dress a support.
Growing tips:
• Annual plant, not hardy, it must be sown every year.
• Sowing in pots (20–25°C) from March or directly in the ground after the last frosts.
• Stratification not necessary, but soaking the seeds 12 hours before sowing can promote germination.
• Prefer sunny exposures and a light, well-drained soil.
• Staking necessary from the first leaves.
• Abundant summer flowering until the first frosts.
Uses:
Ideal for dressing a fence, pergola, or balcony railing, this bright vine attracts pollinators, especially butterflies and hummingbirds in its native range.
Recommended pairings:
Perfect when paired with other climbers like climbing nasturtium, sweet pea, or black-eyed Susan vine, for a plant wall rich in textures and colors.
Symbolism:
The Indian Feather evokes exoticism, fire, creativity, and the connection between earth and sky. It also symbolizes transformation through its changing colors.
