10 Calabash Seeds
Description
The calabash, a cosmopolitan plant found in various regions of the world such as Thailand, Mexico, and Papua, is an annual climbing plant belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family. Here is what you need to know about these seeds:
Description:
- Calabashes produce edible fruits that, once dried, serve as utensils.
- The fruits are round, fleshy, and light green when young. They are more often used for decoration due to their bitter taste, which is not much appreciated in cooking.
- These climbing plants can be used to decorate fences or wire mesh. They can also experience exceptional growth if planted on a compost heap.
Usage:
- If you want to use them for decoration, let them dry until autumn (4 to 5 months after sowing) so they empty naturally.
- Calabashes can also be used to make musical instruments or containers once they are dry.
Planting tips:
- Sow the seeds in pots to transplant them after the last frosts.
