- Easy to grow indoors or outdoors.
- Produces tasty and nutritious Shiitakes, rich in proteins and vitamins.
- Allows multiple fruiting cycles over an extended period.
- Environmentally friendly and sustainable method.
Cultivation instructions
-
Preparation of the sugar water mixture :
- Use bottled mineral water to avoid contaminants like chlorine.
- Add about 10% preservative-free apple or lemon syrup (glucose/fructose).
- Mix 10 ml of mycelium per liter of sugar water (for example, 15 ml for a 1.5-liter bottle).
- Gently shake to evenly distribute the mycelium.
-
Mycelium development :
- Place the mixture in a dark room at a stable temperature of at least 20°C.
- Let rest for 4 to 5 days until the mycelium filaments develop and the liquid becomes cloudy.
-
Substrate inoculation :
-
On the logs :
- Use freshly cut hardwood logs. Drill 3 cm deep holes every 15 cm on the surface of the logs.
- Fill the holes with the mycelium mixture, then seal with food-grade wax or beeswax.
- Place the logs in a shaded area, partially buried to maintain moisture.
-
On other substrates :
- Fill a plastic bag or a ventilated container with the chosen substrate (straw, coffee grounds, sawdust, etc.).
- Pour the mycelium mixture onto the moistened substrate and mix well to distribute evenly.
-
On the logs :
-
Substrate incubation :
- Place the inoculated substrate in a dark, humid place, with a temperature between 20°C and 25°C.
- Wait about 2 to 3 weeks for the mycelium to fully colonize the substrate or logs.
-
Fruiting :
-
Change environmental conditions to trigger fruiting:
- Lower temperature (15-20°C).
- Moderate indirect light.
- High humidity (85-90%), maintained with a humidifier or by regular misting.
- Shiitakes will start to grow on the logs or in substrate bags after an additional 2 to 3 weeks.
-
Change environmental conditions to trigger fruiting:
-
Harvest :
- Harvest Shiitakes when their caps are well formed and still slightly rounded.
- Logs can produce Shiitakes for 2 to 3 years, with several fruiting cycles per year.
Seasonality and harvest
- Inoculation : Spring or early autumn, when weather conditions are mild and humid.
- Expected fruiting : Shiitakes can produce mushrooms for 2 to 3 years on logs, with several harvest cycles per year.
Transform your space into a sustainable growing area and enjoy the satisfaction of harvesting your own Shiitakes. Get started today!
