Description
Discover the delicacy and exquisite flavor of huge salsify, also known as scorzonera. Here is everything you need to know about this ancient vegetable:
Description of Huge Salsify:
- Huge salsify, or scorzonera, is a root vegetable often overlooked but delicious. It has a reputation for being neglected due to its tendency to stain hands during peeling. However, collector gardeners and top chefs are bringing this vegetable back to life, appreciating its unique flavor and delicate texture.
- Scorzonera roots can reach an impressive size and offer tender, flavorful flesh. Their taste resembles that of oysters, making them a highly appreciated ingredient in many recipes.
Growing Tips:
- Huge salsify seeds can be sown directly in open ground from early spring, once the risk of frost has passed.
- Choose a sunny spot in your vegetable garden and a deep, loose, well-drained soil to allow the roots to fully develop.
- Sow the seeds at a depth of about 2 to 3 cm and space them about 10 to 15 cm apart.
- Water regularly to keep the soil slightly moist until harvest.
