They prefer calcareous or slightly alkaline soil (pH between 7.5 and 8.5), well-drained, sandy-loam or slightly stony.
Product Benefits:
- Compatible with various types of trees and natural substrates.
- Simple and effective method to start a truffle culture.
- Allows prolonged fruiting under ideal conditions.
- Environmentally friendly and sustainable.
Growing Instructions
-
Preparation of the sugar water mixture :
- Use bottled mineral water to avoid contaminants like chlorine.
- Add about 10% preservative-free apple or lemon syrup (glucose/fructose).
- Mix 10 ml of mycelium per liter of sugar water (e.g. 15 ml for a 1.5 liter bottle).
- Shake gently to distribute the mycelium evenly.
-
Mycelium development :
- Place the mixture in a dark room at a stable temperature of at least 20°C.
- Let it sit for at least 4 to 5 days, until the mycelium filaments develop and the liquid becomes cloudy.
-
Soil inoculation :
- Root inoculation : Lightly loosen the roots of young trees (1 to 2 years old). Rinse them to remove impurities, then immerse them in the mycelium mixture for 10 to 15 minutes before replanting.
-
Inoculation in place : Dig holes or furrows around the target trees (approximately 1 meter from the trunk).
- Add a layer of substrate (fine peat, vermiculite or sand) mixed with the mycelium.
- Water lightly to maintain moisture, but avoid soggy soil.
-
Environmental conditions :
- Humidity : Maintain constant humidity in the first few weeks after inoculation.
- Temperature : Ideal between 10°C and 25°C.
- Exposure : Favor areas with plenty of sunshine, with little prolonged frost.
Seasonality and harvest
- Inoculation : Spring or early fall, when weather conditions are mild and humid.
- Expected fruiting : Black Périgord Truffles generally fruit between November and March, but production can sometimes take several years (usually 5 to 10 years after inoculation).
