Chinese Cabbage Pé-Tsaï ‘Granaat’ (Brassica rapa var. pekinensis)

Also called Beijing cabbage, napa cabbage, or celestial cabbage, Pé-Tsaï is an Asian variety of Chinese cabbage prized for its tender, sweet, and crunchy leaves. ‘Granaat’ is a very early selection, ideal for late summer to autumn crops.

Annual plant, it forms an elongated and compact head, ideal for woks, soups, salads, or lacto-fermentation (kimchi). The Granaat variety is particularly suited to temperate climates and offers excellent resistance to bolting.

Usage:
Pé-Tsaï can be eaten raw or cooked. Its leaves are tender and slightly sweet. It suits a wide variety of dishes: stir-fries, soups, stuffed dishes, or fermented. Pairs well with ginger, garlic, coriander, or soy sauce.

Planting tips:

• Sow from March to September, in a nursery or directly in the ground depending on the season.

• Transplanting is recommended when the plants reach 4 to 5 leaves.

• The soil should be cool, humus-rich, well-drained, and slightly acidic to neutral.

• Regular watering for good head formation.

Good compatibility with carrots, lettuce, beets, and herbs (dill, chives). Avoid other brassicas in the same spot the following year.
