🌱 Selling seeds in France and Europe: what you need to know
At SemiSauvage Permaculture, we offer you seeds for the pleasure of cultivating, observing, transmitting, and preserving biodiversity.
But some customers ask us legitimate questions:
Is it legal? Is it allowed? Are there any restrictions?
Here are clear, reassuring, and documented answers.
🧾 What the regulations say
✅ Yes, it is allowed to sell seeds to individuals.
In France and the European Union, it is perfectly legal to sell seeds intended for non-professional use (amateur gardening, collection, cultivation in pots or in open ground).
👉 This activity is regulated, but it is not prohibited, provided that:
-
The seeds are not presented as intended for professional agriculture;
-
The concerned species are not listed on a phytosanitary prohibition list;
-
The seller complies with the rules of traceability, labeling, and hygiene.
Our seeds are exclusively intended for amateur use, in compliance with these provisions.
🛡️ Why do these rules exist?
These rules are not intended to restrict the freedom to garden, but to:
-
Limit the spread of serious plant diseases;
-
Prevent the introduction of invasive or harmful species;
-
Protect agricultural and forest ecosystems.
This is a matter of plant health security, just as essential as food safety.
🌿 Our approach: preserving biodiversity, in full compliance
At SemiSauvage Permaculture:
✔️ All our species are authorized for sale to individuals, in compliance with French and European regulations.
✔️ Our seeds are reproducible, untreated, non-GMO, and come from carefully selected batches.
✔️ We ensure rigorous tracking of each variety: botanical name, origin, traceability, storage conditions.
✔️ And above all: we adhere to SEMAE (the seed interprofessional organization), which allows us to:
-
Follow the official phytosanitary requirements in force;
-
Be informed in real time of regulatory changes;
-
Ensure transparency and enhanced compliance on sensitive species.
💧 We do not ship any live plants or products that may carry pests, except where explicitly stated and only within mainland France.
🌍 And for deliveries abroad?
If you order from a country outside the European Union (such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada, or the United States), please note that each country applies its own import rules.
📦 Some countries require a phytosanitary certificate, which we do not provide to date.
This means that we cannot guarantee customs clearance for these destinations, even though it may be possible in some cases.
ℹ️ Before placing any order from abroad, please check your country's regulations.
