In pots, potting soil dries out faster than in the ground. Monitor moisture, especially in hot or windy weather, and water at the base as needed. Let the water drain away to prevent it from pooling around the roots.
Respect the space each plant needs and adjust feeding accordingly: not all flowers appreciate very rich soil. Remove faded flowers when this encourages continued blooming, keeping a few flower heads if you wish to collect seeds.
Flowering follows different schedules depending on the species, sowing date and growing conditions. Some perennials, such as coneflower, may initially devote time to establishing themselves before flowering fully.
